Moreover, due to a long period of isolation Japanese people grew up with strong nationalism. Strong nationalism drives them to purchase domestic product.
From long history of Japan says Japan tends to prohibit as possible as entering foreign product in Japanese market. Government initiative and facilities of entering in Japanese market is not much favorable.
In addition, after US occupation, United State aggressively enter in Japanese market with high quality product. Hence, In Japan any seller have to strongly face two giant producing country in world, Japan and United State.
